Social Services Associate
Central Peninsula Hospital and Heritage Place Continuing Care
& Outpatient Therapies
Soldatna, Alaska
Peninsula Hospital and Heritage Place services an area of 9,000 square miles, serving a population of 35,000 people. Our hospital and associated facilities have embraced the Planetree philosophy of patient-centered care, and encourage a home-like atmosphere. Lexie helps us provide this distinctive quality.
As the Social Service Associate at Heritage Place, I am always on the move, working with short and long term patients and their families. Lexie has been a huge benefit, encouraging our patients to work with therapists and support staff, calming a tense situation, and bringing a little bit of home to those who are hospitalized.
Lexie works in both the hospital and short and long term care and therapy facilities. She goes home each evening and becomes our family dog, enjoying camping trips and playing in the snow.

Karen and Sarah are at the center of a newly formed program for Animal Assisted Therapy at the Denver Children’s Home in Denver, Colorado. They work closely with therapists during group and private sessions throughout each week. The therapists have seen great improvement in the patients they work with when a dog is involved. The kids REQUEST the presence of Sara as often as possible and are calmer and more open. Sara is a beautiful Standard Poodle.
